South Dakota Cattlemen.

SDCA Membership Benefits

SDCA leaders and staff have developed working relationships with state agency personnel and lawmakers to ensure you have a voice at the state capitol and in Washington, DC.

  • A full time lobbyist representing you in Pierre. All SDCA policy is member directed. SDCA staff monitor state and federal legislation and rules to benefit South Dakota cattle producers.
  • Protecting South Dakota’s beef industry from environmental and animal activist threats.
  • Reliable, timely information on issues affecting cattlemen. Our publications include The South Dakota Cattleman magazine and The Cattle Guard, a weekly e-mail bulletin keeping cattlemen informed on breaking news & upcoming events.
  • Preserving the ranching life by protecting private property rights, working to reduce tax burdens and limit government regulations.
  • Protecting the health of South Dakota’s livestock by working with the Animal Industry Board
  • Beef promotion opportunities and trained staff to serve as media liaisons.
  • Opportunity to direct local, state and national association policies and network with fellow cattlemen by participating in meetings and events.

Membership Types

SDCA Producer Membership

Any individual that owns cattle.

•Voting member of SDCA (one vote per member) 

•Receive all SDCA publications, The South Dakota Cattlemen magazine, weekly e-newsletter, and legislative updates.

•Receive advertising discounts.

•Invitations and discount rates for all SDCA events and local affiliate events. 

$150 per year

$400 per 3 years



NCBA Membership

The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) is the national trade association representing U.S. cattle producers, with more than 28,000 individual members and sixty-four state affiliate, breed and industry organization members. 

 NCBA works to advance the economic, political and social interests of the U.S. cattle business and to be an advocate for the cattle industry's policy positions and economic interests. government.

Fair Share Program

Individuals are given the option to pay additional dues based on the number of head in their operation. Fair share dues go directly to SDCA's efforts to protect the rights of individual cattle producers. 

•Cow-Calf Fair Share = $.20/Pair 

•Feeder Fair Share = $.10/Head 



South Dakota Cattlemen's Auxiliary

 We are a group of women who support and promote beef in South Dakota.              

The funding used by the Auxiliary is generated through the $1 National Beef Check-Off. Half of that $1dollar is invested in beef promotions through out the state under the supervision and approval of the South Dakota Beef Industry Council and the other half is invested in supporting Beef with programs on a national level.    

Our projects are championed by our members and agreed upon by the membership.  Here are some of our past projects:  Supporting young people and their families participating in the EmBe Girls on the Run/Let Me Run program  FamilyFest for summer fun -Etc. for Her Magazine’s Expo For Her  Beef Up Your Reading Program

Allied Industry  Membership

Allied Industry memberships Allied Industry memberships are designed for companies who support cattlemen and women.  Membership levels vary by the amount your company would like to invest.

Young Cattlemen of South Dakota Council 

Young Cattlemen of South Dakota The mission of Young Cattlemen of South Dakota (YCSD) is to create opportunities for young producers to be successful, fostering opportunities for learning & camaraderie  while  advocating for South Dakota's cattle industry. Interested in joining the council? -If you are already a South Dakota Cattlemen's Association member, contact the SDCA office to become added to the council. 

Young Cattlemen of South Dakota is open to all SDCA members ages 18-40.


SDCA Feeder Council Membership

For cattle feeders and backgrounders. The SDCA Feeder Council focuses on special interests of feeders, particularly environmental regulations.

Must be a current SDCA member to join the Feeder Council. Feeder Council dues can be paid directly to SDCA. 

The SDCA Feeder Council holds their own meetings and events and has elected leadership. 


$100 per year or $270 for 3 years.


SDCA Cow-Calf Council

For cow-calf operators. The SDCA Cow-Calf Council focuses on issues directly impacting cow-calf operators. 

Must be a current SDCA member. Cow-Calf Council dues can be paid directly to SDCA. The cow-calf council holds their own meetings and has elected leadership.

•Dues: $20 


SDCA Student Membership

For Student members. The SDCA Student membership allows full time students to be a member at a discounted rate.

•Voting member of SDCA (one vote for member)
